Scouting tegen criminaliteit
Bendes zijn in El Salvador heel actief aanwezig. Als buffer tegen de criminele bendes, waaraan jongeren gedwongen worden deel te nemen, zijn we in november 2007 gestart met een scoutsbeweging. Een positieve groepsvorming met een ethisch ideaal zoals elke dag de goede daad beschermt jongeren die doelloos langs de straat zwerven. Het ontwikkelt bij hen een zin voor verantwoordelijkheid en sociaal engagement, samen met ecologisch bewustzijn.
In de scoutsgroep vinden ze een thuis die ze vaak niet hebben. Ze ontdekken er aandacht en warmte die ze nodig hebben. Ze mogen er creatief zijn, toekomstgericht denken in aandacht voor de natuur, leren overleggen, met elkaar praten en geweldloos problemen oplossen.
Ander sociaal milieu
Via scoutsjamborees en scoutskampen ontstaat er contact tussen de kinderen van El Zaite en kinderen uit een ander sociaal milieu van El Salvador. Scouting is in El Salvador vaak een omgeving van de rijkeren, maar dankzij deze interacties wordt het klassensysteem daardoor doorbroken. Integratie van de allerarmsten wordt mogelijk: één van de grote doelstellingen van SASEL vzw.
De scoutsgroep heeft enorm veel succes bij de jongeren en ze gaan met veel enthousiasme. Financieel is het een hele investering want onze jongeren of hun ouders hebben geen geld voor uniformen, slaapzakken, uitrustingen of spelmateriaal.
Grupo Scout #38 San Martin de Porres
De scoutsgroep die SASEL heeft opgericht, is de 38ste San Martin de Porres. Genoemd naar de heilige die in El Zaite heel belangrijk is, en waar de school ook naar vernoemd is.
In 2008 werd een terrein aangekocht zodat de scoutsgroep op een veilige plek kan spelen. Vlakke, open terreinen zijn in El Zaite dun bezaaid.
Bij de opstart van de scoutsgroep werd deze mee opgenomen in het scoutsverbond van El Salvador waardoor het mogelijk is om interactie met andere scoutsgroepen te bekomen. Het verbond zorgt voor ondersteuning bij verschillende zaken zoals verzekering, of inspiratie voor spelen en vormingsmomenten.
Mijn goede daad is een jaarlijkse gift aan de scouts van El Zaite.

‘Another experience that marked my formation was being part of the Scout group. There, I learned fundamental values such as solidarity ,respect , responsibility and teamwork ,values that will always accompany me in my daily live. Every activity, every camp, and evey challenge overcome taught me the importance of helping others and being a positive example. That is the reason why I wish to pass these lessons on to future generations, teaching them the values I have lived and reinforcing the importance of being commited,responsible, and compassionate indivuduals.‘

‘Society often labels Scouts as places for playing, socialising, or, as seen in films, distributing biscuits. However, at least in this group, things are quite different. Here, we learn te leave the world in a better condition than we found it, following the legacy of our founder and guide , Sir Baden -Powell. We attend the scout meeting in SAN JUAN BUENA VISTA , located in a different province of El Salvador, every Saturday. Young people of various ages, from the youngest to the oldest, meet to participate in recreational and creative activities in a natural environement, putting Scouting principles into practice. And no we not attend just to have fun; we also participate in community service projects, such as clean-up campaigns organised bij Scout members, as well as moments of spirituality that encourage us to connect with our inner selves.That are truly unique and unforgettable experiences.‘

‘I am still member of the Scout Group. In this new stage, as part of the Scout Unit , adventure is never lacking, and each activity offers valuable lessons that enrich my live. Scouting has become an essential part of my daily routine. Every Saturday I experience it with enthusiasm, joy and songs that fill my heart. On several occasions , we gone a long walks across the fields, including a river where enjoy playing in the water. By the end of each journey, the tiredness turns into satisfaction; every drop of sweat reflects effort and dedication, while a sense of peace fills my mind, allowing me te leave behind worries that linger at home.‘
